The quintessential jewelry watch from Rolex, the Pearlmaster was first launched in 1992 as a larger and redesigned sibling to the Lady Datejust. In fact, the DATEJUST label is still found on the Pearlmaster dial, yet this jeweled Rolex timepiece has characteristics that are all her own. Offered in three distinct case sizes — 29mm, 34mm, and 39mm — the collection is named after its Pearlmaster bracelet. The rounded five-link construction of the bracelet radiates sensuous feminine appeal and is a piece of jewelry in its own right.
As a relative of the Lady-Datejust, the Rolex Pearlmaster is of course equipped with a date window at 3 o’clock magnified by the Cyclops lens affixed onto the sapphire crystal protecting the dial. Depending on the reference, the most current versions are powered by either the Rolex Caliber 2235 for smaller models and the Rolex Caliber 3235 for the 39mm reference. Naturally, all the Pearlmaster watches are Superlative Chronometers Officially Certified instruments thanks to the duo of COSC certification and stringent in-house testing within the Rolex laboratories.
The Rolex Pearlmaster watches are exclusively constructed in 18k gold with a choice of yellow, white or Everose pink. As much a piece of jewelry as a precise timekeeping instrument, the Pearlmaster is also always adorned with precious gems including diamonds, sapphires, and rubies. Within the Pearlmaster collection, models range from delicately diamond accented dials and bezels to more extravagant full diamond pavé dials and gem-encrusted Pearlmaster bracelets.
In 2015, Rolex presented a brand new size and look to the Pearlmaster collection with the Pearlmaster 39 models. With Oyster cases measuring 39mm it’s notably larger than its predecessors, while the multicolored jewels set on the bezels make for a gloriously colorful jeweled watch. Crafted in either 18k yellow or white gold, fancy pink, green, and orange sapphires are placed on the bezels in a circular color gradient set by the brand’s master gem-setters. The different color dials in red grape, olive green, and cognac are exquisitely embellished with diamond accented hour markers. For more precious editions of the Pearlmaster 39, full diamond paved dials and diamond set Pearlmaster bracelets are also available.
With the presence of gold and gems on the Rolex Pearlmaster, the brand’s jewelry watches are pricey, however, used Pearlmaster watches offer wearers prestige and luxury at much lower prices. Pre-owned Rolex Pearlmaster watches in the secondary market can be bought for a fraction of the cost of what it would be sold for at retail.
