OMEGA Constellation – A Watch for the Stars

Although the company had no intention of mass-producing this self-winding watch, the demand from customers was so great that it inspired a collection of self-winding chronometers and the OMEGA Constellation collection was born. The year was 1952 and during its over 60-year history, the OMEGA Constellation has become of the brand’s flagship collections with the ladies’ Constellation lineup joining in 1967.

Constellation Manhattan

In 1982 OMEGA unveiled the Constellation “Manhattan” watch featuring the four claws, or “griffes”, on the case, which has now become a fundamental design detail of the OMEGA Constellation. Other characteristics found on modern Constellations that were taken from the Constellation “Manhattan” include the bezel marked with indexes, the half-moon design on the lugs, and the iconic integrated hinged bracelet.

An important component of the family of watches is the ladies’ Constellation, offering a myriad of styles with metal, dial, and bracelet options. The OMEGA Constellation Luxury Edition timepieces are exquisite jewelry watches lavishly embellished with diamonds. The movements powering the Constellation watches range from precise Swiss quartz movements to OMEGA’s groundbreaking Co-Axial calibers.

Constellation Globemaster

At the 2015 Baselworld Fair, OMEGA launched a brand new Constellation Globemaster collection. In the early years of the Constellation, the watch was actually called the Globemaster in the US market because of a trademark issue with the name “Constellation”. The modern Globemaster is a throwback to the early Constellation models featuring the famous pie-pan dial encased in a 39mm round case and topped with a fluted bezel. Yet, at the heart of the watch lies what OMEGA calls the most advanced mechanical movement ever — the Caliber 8900/8901. Termed the world’s first Master Chronometer, the OMEGA Globemaster passed tests by both COSC and a new watch certification process by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). The eight-step METAS certification process includes magnetic field resistance, waterproofness, precision, and other daily wearing condition tests.

Buying Pre-Owned OMEGA Constellation Watches

As the history of the Constellation spans over six decades, the OMEGA secondary market is abundant with pre-owned OMEGA Constellation watches, including vintage timepieces and rarer references. There’s an impressive selection of used ladies’ Constellation pieces and secondhand gent’s Constellation watches at attractive prices to be taken advantage of.
