Over the 40 years of its existence, the brand has focused on creating unique complications as well as the movements to power them, and has already been the proud recipient of 12 design awards.
When it comes to complications, the brand has already shown incredible expertise especially in retrograde displays, chronographs and moon phase displays. Their perhaps greatest accomplishment was the development of the Memoire 1, a limited chronograph with a memory function, in 2008 – with this, Maurice Lacroix introduced to the world a brand new Grande Complication. This was soon after they announced the manufacture of their first in-house movement, the ML106, in 2006.
Maurice Lacroix watches use both mechanical movements and quartz movements, split almost evenly across their many collections. For the mechanical movements, while the brand does use contemporary calibres and even historical movements on occasion, all of which are modified to optimize their function in a modern setting, Maurice Lacroix also creates some of its movements purely in-house. These 14 in-house movements are used in the Masterpiece series of watches.
This combination of following the traditional “Swiss art of watchmaking” and manufacturing their own movements propelled Maurice Lacroix to the upper echelons of Swiss Watch Manufactures.
While the brand does cater to both and women, the majority of their offerings are skewed in favour of the men. The men’s collections are the Masterpiece, Pontos, FC Barcelona, Les Classiques, and Eliros, while the women’s collections are Les Classiques, Eliros, and Fiaba.
The demand for pre-owned watches is substantial and the estate watch market is consequentially expanding. Even as a recent entrant into the watchmaking world, the luxury nature of Maurice Lacroix watches may keep the watches beyond the grasp of many ardent watch lovers. For them, a pre-owned Maurice Lacroix is the perfect decision – genuine, in good condition, and at far more affordable rate than they might have otherwise managed. And where one treasure exists, others are likely to as well…so, explore!
