Vartan Sirmakes, on the other hand, made cases for fine watchmaking brands in his workshop. In 1991, the two men collaborated and then realized that between them, they could establish an extraordinary brand – and so they set up the house of Franck Muller in Genthod, Switzerland in the same year.

One of his greatest achievements was his design of the oscillatory tourbillon wristwatch. Although the tourbillon had originally been developed some 200 years prior, it had always been visible at the back of the watch. Franck Muller was the first to include a tourbillon in the watch dial. This revolutionary development alongside other Grande Complications he devised netted him the title of “Master of Complications”.
To give themselves the freedom to create truly unique pieces while also creating the efficiency to meet quickly changing requirements and circumstances without compromising on product quality, Franck Muller maintains control over the various stages of production. In addition to the creativity that goes into designing a new creation, the brand’s six production houses in Switzerland independently manufactures their required components for the cases, movement, dials, hands, crowns, buckles, tongues and push mechanisms. This end-to-end approach creates an environment where innovation is possible on both the design and technical levels.
