A. Lange & Söhne – Where German Fine Watchmaking Began
Ferdinand Adolph Lange’s journey began with
an education usually reserved for engineers and technicians and an
apprenticeship with a master clockmaker, following which he went to France to
further his studies and skills. Armed with this knowledge, he founded A. Lange
& Söhne in the town of Glashütte in 1845.
F.A. Lange is credited with laying the
foundations of the German watchmaking industry in Glashütte and revolutionizing
watchmaking itself. 170 years later, this brand is a leader in the world of
haute horlogerie and is in a state of constant demand among watch lovers and
collectors the world over.
A. Lange & Söhne movements are
developed and manufactured completely in-house. These by-hand engraved and
decorated manual and automatic movements are as exquisite a creation as the
watches it powers; a beauty that is appreciated thanks to the many models that have
sapphire crystal case backs.
A. Lange & Söhne introduced its first
four new calibres in 1994. A mere 17 years later, by 2011, this number had
increased to 40, with over 150 international prizes and awards being conferred
on Lange’s calibre designers and watchmakers. At present, the number of
movements has increased to 49.
Known for their time-only and complication watches
(with the chronograph, split second chronograph, and perpetual calendar being
the most favoured), A. Lange watches are made in 18k gold or platinum and come
with breathtaking detailing. Each wristwatch is a unique masterpiece that is
made completely by hand; consequently, each year sees production of only a few
thousand wristwatches. Each piece is engineered to be perfect in every way;
anything less is unacceptable to the brand ethos as laid down by the founder.
With a distinctive and easily recognized
appearance, A. Lange & Söhne watches are coveted by men and women who value
understated elegance and perfect functionality – they find exactly that in the Zeitwerk, Lange 1, Saxonia, Richard Lange, and 1815 collections.
A. Lange & Söhne watches are a dream to
own; and without the estate watch market, it would remain a dream for many.
This market gives watch aficionados the chance to own an authentic used A. Lange & Söhne watch without losing out on any of the watch’s inherent value
or spending a small fortune. Explore this world and find your iconic match – be
among the watch-loving elite!.
